IPL Hair Removal
Broad spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin by way of a hand held wand. The light travels through the skin until it strikes the chromaphore melanin which is in the bulb (root) of the hair. The bulb holds the highest content of melanin which absorbs the light. As the light is converted to heat energy, the bulb and most of the hair shaft are instantly vaporized. This is called Photothermolysis. Phototherolysis is precise in targeting the chromophore using a specific wavelength of light. When light is absorbed by the chromophore a thermal reaction takes place.
The cycle of hair growth has three distinct phases: growing, transition and resting. IPL hair removal will only successfuly treat hair in the growing phase and it is for this reason that multiple treatments are required.
